Home: It’s messy, lived in and a blessing

Posted by on March 8, 2013 – 12:28 am

I’m taking Lisa-Jo Baker’s 5-minute Friday challenge today. She gave the topic – home – and asked writers to spend five-minutes typing on the topic.
Here’s my contribution.

Home
It’s messy and dusty. It’s piles of paper work and forgotten scrapbook projects on the dining room table. It’s scraps of cheese on the couch and stomped on crackers on the floor.
It’s three baskets of CLEAN laundry piled high in the loft and a fourth dumped on the rug.
It’s a dirt lot in the back yard where grass refuses to grow and plants die.
It’s lived in. It’s loved on. It’s ours.
It’s where my three children and I run to that dirt back yard and swing from “Santa’s” gift hung high on our 10-year-old mesquite tree. It’s there I send them to get energy out before school.
From that same back yard comes the giggles, laughs and joy I love so much.
Home is the sight of daddy on the couch watching TV when we walk in from evening karate or ballet.
“Daddy!” my 2-year-old squeals.
It’s dog piles on the man I’ve shared my life with as a spouse for 15 years.
Home brings the five of us together each night. It’s where we say goodbye each morning.
It houses books in its nooks and crannies and toy bins and under sides of beds.
It’s a reminder of what hard work can do when we look at the wood floors in every single living area – each placed by mom or dad or grandparents.
It’s new paint in the ever changing family chess game known as a “room swap.”
Home sits quiet now as three babes sleep. Only the sound of the keyboard and the fly let in during our last outdoor adventure can be heard.
