The biggest impact to my wife (and to a lesser extent) myself came at child #1 and child #3. The first child changed the household which previously had no children, while child #3 meant that the kids outnumbered us. As the additional children came, all two years apart, they better absorbed one another's energy making it easier for my wife and myself and they also kept an eye on one another -- with so many children, no one gets away with anything. Also, as more children enter the household, they more easily adapt to the norms of the older children so Mom and Dad don't need to be explaining everything to each one again, they just copy their older siblings. We are glad that we spent an enormous amount of quality time with the first two because the others then followed their lead. We have continued to spend quality time with each, and as time has gone by life has become easier because the older children eventually help more with the younger ones.

"Brave.
Is it born? Is it learned? Is it in you?"

these were the lines that stood out to me this morning... when i ask those questions, i'd say brave is breathed in by God, breathed out in choosing obedience.

Try being a teacher around sick kids all day because parents can't or won't take time off to tend to their sick children. I am a walking kleenex as kids sneeze on me, cough in my face, and throw-up on my shoes...and I teach 5th grade. Please don't get me started on the school nurses who send obviously sick kids back to class.

Visiting from Five Minute Friday - you've captured such a perfect "mom" moment in your post - balancing the to-do with the ta-da and the some-day with the now. It reminds me of the book "When the Handwriting on the Wall is in Brown Crayon" :)

What's really neat about your post though, is that it gave me the opportunity to find your blog. We're about an hour further east of the East Valley area, but I'm really glad I found the EVMoms Blog through the Five Minute Friday challenge. Looking forward to reading more of your posts and to following the blog.

Have a great night & hope to see future Five Minute Friday posts here.

I love your home. It sounds a lot like mine. We even had those big plaid throw pillows for a time, until they were destroyed by spilled bottles of milk, food, and substances I most likely didn't really want to know the orgin of LOL. Your home sounds like a fun place to be!
