I felt rundown Friday night. By Saturday morning, I was convinced I had strept – sore throat, achy neck, runny nose.
A trip to the doc determined that it wasn’t anything more than a regular cold. But all I wanted to do was go to bed!
Being that that wasn’t going to happen – at least not for an extended period of time – I found other ways to “rest” this weekend.
My busiest child had a birthday party invite – for four hours. She played and burned energy while I managed a …

As many moms can attest, sometimes we are the last ones to bed at night, last to eat breakfast (if we eat at all), last to go to the doctor when we are sick. Sometimes a hat substitutes for a shower and “me time” is found in the 40 minutes of dance class once a week.
I’m guilty of all of the above. But I know mentally, physically and spiritually I want (and need) to do a better job taking care of me so I can be a better mom, a …

Welcome to parenting, momma.
Now the real texts arrive.
I haven’t tested this, but it caught my attention, so I decided to pass along the information.
The National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition is offering free, health education via cell phones. When parents sign up for Text4baby, they will receive a weekly message timed to their child’s due date or birth date for their child’s first year. Topics will range from nutrition to immunizations to birth defect prevention.
The texts are offered for free through a partnership with many cell phone plans.
When phone users …

It’s a true sign of the holidays when peppermint coffee creamer arrives in the stores. I got mine a week or two ago.
This container is empty. I MUST get to the store today or tomorrow morning will be very sad.
What are some of your favorite signs of the holidays? I am going to post one a day from now until Christmas (or maybe beyond considering the fact that there have been years when the tree is still up in February).

One month ago a new soul entered our home, my daughter Miss L. As planned, she came midmorning via c-section. (Oh and did I mention she is beautiful, laid back and very sweet?)
Being as she came five and a half years after our last baby, we were a little unprepared when we found out she was coming last fall. Gone were the strollers, the crib, the bassinet and baby clothes from our oldest daughter. I was a bit sad about the crib because it was not only the dreaming spot …

It should come as no surprise that I count myself among the TwilightMom fans. (Note: I have a link to Stephenie Meyer’s blog on mine) Part of my intrigue is Stephenie’s story – how this mom of three young boys managed to find the time to create not one, but (including “The Host”) five bestsellers. As a writer of nonfiction, the process of creating fiction fascinates me. How much do you research? How much do you make up? What inspires you? When do you do your writing?
Friday’s midnight opening of …

I spent the last few days at a conference in Washington, D.C. Not only did I plan my trip, I confess I also put in place events for my husband and kids in my absence. Example: Sunday a good friend came over with his two kids for our weekly “football watching/playdate.” And with my husband coaching football, one night I arranged a babysitter and the other night his mom picked up the kids from school.
OK, so I didn’t have it planned out perfectly. My husband said our friends showed up …

Well, if for no other reason than a “Been there, done that” feeling, I want to pass along notice of an author speaking at a local bookstore next week.
(As in, after giving birth to my two children and not knowing what happened to my brain capacity, I’ve “been there and done that!”)
Changing Hands in Tempe is hosting Adrienne Hedger, the author of “If These Boobs Could Talk: A Little Humor to Pump Up the Breastfeeding Mom.” Hedger’s newest book is, “Momnesia: A Humorous Guide to Surviving Your Post-Baby Brain.”
She will …

On Sunday, my girlfriend and I pulled off “The Great Mom-Me Escape.”
I didn’t even know I was part of the conspiracy to do this (I swear!).
Earlier in the week my son and her son were BEGGING to get together. Every afternoon there was a request.
So she suggested that on Sunday, her boys come over to my house and then I leave and come to scrapbook at her house. That sounded simple enough.
But honest, by “boys” I figured she just meant her 8-year-old, and that her nearly 13-year-old would like just …
