A new Star Wars novel will explore an unaired storyline from the canceled Clone Wars animated series, one that pits rogue Sith apprentice Asajj Ventress against the unorthodox Jedi Master Quinlan Vos.

No title for the book, pegged for a summer release next year, has been announced. Christie Golden, who penned three volumes in the “Fate of the Jedi” series, is the author.

“Ventress had become one of the most interesting characters…we had all this material, we had all these designs…This is based on scripts we had written with George Lucas…I’m super excited about this book,” said Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni at a Comic-Con panel chronicled on a liveblog on the official Star Wars website.

Lucasfilm senior editor Jennifer Heddle added that this will be more of an “adult” novel, and Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo said the novel will be able to go deeper “in ways that the show could not.”
