Christoph Waltz in talks for new Tarzan film
The last we had heard of the David Yates (Harry Potter) helmed Tarzan film was that it was dead in the water (we’re assuming the victim of a crocodile attack), which was very sad considering that Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) was allegedly signed to play the Jungle Lord and that Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) was in talks to portray Jane Porter. But news out today from Variety proves that you can’t keep an ape-man down.
Variety reports that Quentin Tarantino favorite, Christoph Waltz, is considering playing a military type role in the (apparently still in development) new Tarzan flick. It’s unclear who said character will be, but my guess is the French Naval Officer, Paul D’Arnot, who originally teaches the ape-man to speak and act civilized and is one of his few non-jungle friends.
It is said that the Yates directed story will have Tarzan going from civilization back to his jungle roots in order to take on an evil diamond mining warlord. Samuel L. Jackson has also been mentioned as potentially playing a part in this film, and according to the Variety article, the Valley’s own Emma Stone is being looked at for the Jane role. (Not sure what happened with the Jessica Chastain rumors, but Ms. Stone is an excellent choice as well.)
So, this is all awesome news for fans of the Lord of the Jungle. Here’s hoping this thing gets “green-lit” and is swinging into production soon.
