This week it was revealed by The Wrap that actress Margot Robbie (The Wolf Of Wall Street) is in negotiations to play Jane in the upcoming Tarzan film. This is somewhat of a surprise as last March it was rumored that Jessica Chastain (who was the hot actress of the time, coming off her role in Zero Dark Thirty) was being looked at for this part. The good news in all of this is that, yes, the David Yates directed Ape-Man flick is still in the works.

I was a lot more excited about Chastain in the Jane role than I am about Robbie. Robbie is too pretty and girly, whereas the character of Jane (for me) is a more rugged woman who could fend for herself – at least until Tarzan showed up to save the day (which sometimes takes a while.) Chastain strikes me as that type of character, where Margot Robbie just seems ditzy and flirty. Again, the good news here is the movie is going forward, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Robbie can be more than a damsel in distress.

So in honor of the Ape-Man and his mate, this week’s Classic Cover is from Marvel’s seventies series of comics which were based on the original books by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tarzan #11 closes the adaptation of the novel, Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar, with a Roy Thomas penned story titled, “Tarzan Triumphs!” (Like we ever doubted it.)

This amazing ape-infested cover is by the legendary John Buscema, who, together with his brother, Sal Buscema, penciled most of the books in this classic series. I love that the King of the Jungle takes the time to explain to his lady love that he’s going to hide her up in the trees before he and his simian brethren whoop up on the bad guys. Always the gentleman.
