Nerdvana’s October Undead Roundup
Fall has arrived. The leaves are turning color, the temperature is finally cooling down … and the undead are once again walking the Valley streets. RUN … or stick around and enjoy the zombie mania coming your way over the next couple of weeks.
Wednesday (10/9/13) at midnight (that’s this Tuesday night) many local comic shops will be holding sales and other spooky shenanigans to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Robert Kirkman’s “The Walking Dead” comic book. Issue #115, which has a slew of variant covers, will go on sale when the clock strikes twelve, and the highly-anticipated “All Out War” storyline will begin. Who will live? Who will die? Who will die, come back and then die again? Check your local shop for details on what they have planned.
This Friday, October 11, 2013, is downtown Mesa’s 2nd Friday “Classic Monster Mash!” There will be costumes of all sorts, but zombies are always a big part of 2nd Friday’s October festivities. Get your dead on and join the “scariest street in the city” for an evening of art, costume contests, haunted tours and Halloween prizes. Get more information at: 2ndFridayNightOut.com.
If you are looking for zombie movie stardom and happen to have the day off this Friday (10/11/13), the comedy documentary film “Surviving the Zombie Plague” is looking for extras. They’ll be shooting in Tempe and can use your undead acting abilities. Check out their Facebook event for details.
Sunday, October 13, 2013, is the television event we’ve all been waiting for, the Season Four premiere of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” cable series. Fan favorite, Michonne, is going to be whupping up on the “walkers” from horseback – and then swiping Carl’s hat and going full John Wayne on their butts. Well, maybe not, but either way, you can bet it’ll be exciting.
Friday, October 25, 2013, is “Nightmare in Mesa,” downtown Mesa’s third annual Halloween block party. The event is looking for undead volunteers to mingle with the other costumed revelers, and they are even going to provide the make-up. Tucson band the Mission Creeps will be playing live music, along with the Calabrese band and The Limit Club. Get more details at: downtownmesa.com/nightmare.
On Saturday, October 26, 2013, downtown Phoenix holds its 5th annual Zombie Walk. This is one of the biggest “Zombie Walks” in the country and is a fun family-themed event (because you know what they say, “A family that slays together, stays together.”) Be sure to bring a canned food item to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank.
