Phoenix Comicon 2013: Building up steam
The 2013 Phoenix Comicon is building up a head of steam and is going to be here before we know it (May 23 – 26 to be precise.) And by “steam” we mean that the local Steampunk community is going to have a bigger presence than ever at this year’s con.
What started a few years ago as just a small handful of Victorian-fantasy enthusiasts has now grown into a fledgling community of genre filmmakers, authors, musicians, artists, costume designers and cosplayers who have carved out a large piece of the comicon’s event pie – sliced with a 19th century electrolaser-pistol, of course.
You can peruse the entire gambit of Comicon Steampunk events at the Phoenix Comicon’s Steampunk Programming page, and this year’s schedule includes an appearance by the alluring Steampunk author, Cherie Priest (Boneshaker), and a panel of creators and actors from Arizona’s own Steampunk web-series, Mantecoza.
Want to get involved in the Comicon’s Steampunk shenanigans? Here are a few of the locally sponsored events that you can sign-up to actively participate in.
