No DuckTales: Rocker sets Scrooge McDuck graphic novel to music, with album art from original creator
The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck is a sought-after graphic novel collecting Don Rosa’s comic book stories chronicling everyone’s favorite avaricious avian, inspired by and organizing the history set forth in earlier works by the immortal Carl Barks. But now Rosa’s work is, in turn, inspiring an artist of a different feather altogether.
Tuomas Holopainen, a Finnish prog-metal musician, has apparently long dreamed of creating a concept album that serves as a soundtrack for Rosa’s epic story. And this spring, that unlikely journey of nearly 15 years will culminate in the April release of Music Inspired By The Life And Times Of Scrooge.
This life’s ambition is no mere lip service to Don Rosa, however — the writer and illustrator, now officially retired from comics, has picked up his pen once again to design the evocative album cover for Holopainen’s masterpiece — and he appears prominently in the music video for the album’s lead track, “A Lifetime Of Adventure.” Which you can watch now! Don Rosa’s a living treasure, and it’s great to see him honored in such a creative way.
Adding to the excitement, his work will be republished in hardcover format starting this summer when Walt Disney’s Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck: The Son of the Sun debuts in June as the first volume in “The Don Rosa Library.” Via Comics Alliance
If you only know the world’s richest duck from television’s DuckTales, you don’t even know half the story! These adventures will only seem superfically familiar to you, but they’re every bit as enchanting and thrilling.
