If you didn’t already know, Downtown Mesa has been one of THE places to enjoy some good, geeky fun! The past two weekends alone have been so full of awesome that I’m gonna have to put three different slideshows into this one post! (Also keep an eye out for videos of these events HERE)

First of all, on the 2nd, there was ‘Lightning Octocon‘ put together by Jonathan Simon of Lightning Octopus and held at Lulubell Toy Bodega. ‘Lightning Octocon’ is basically a big party to celebrate another year of Lightning Octopus, this being the second one. There was some gaming, a large mural for people to add on to, snacks and drinks, and socializing with friends.  Lots of people came to support one of their favorite blogs and say thanks to Jonathan for keeping them informed about what’s happening for geeks in Arizona.

Also on the 2nd was ‘ConRehab at Monsterland‘, put together by Monsterland and Phoenix Comicon. ‘ConRehab’ was a huge after-party for Phoenix Comicon goers ages 21+. There were DJ’s, geek themed drinks, and people in costume. This place was packed and everyone was having a great time. People were able to let loose and chat about how the con went and talk about their  plans for next year. People who brought their Phoenix Comicon badges got in free.

On the 8th, Bob and Debbie Leeper of Evermore Nevermore put on their 2nd annual ‘Zombie Bikini Contest‘ in front of Queen’s Pizzaria. This year there were only 5 contestants but they all rocked! Hosted by Russ Kazmierczak of Amazing Arizona Comics and judged by representatives from Monsterland, il Vinaio, Queen’s Pizzaria, and Dr. Diabolic. This year there was a surprise boy contest joining the girls which was really fun. The Department of Zombie Defense was down there too to keep the zombies in check (and for some fun photos ops). Just like last year, this event drew a large crowd, and hope fully next year it will draw more contestants as well. I am looking forward to the 3rd annual ‘Zombie Bikini Contest’!
