FilmBar’s December film series to feature Star Wars Holiday Special
What holiday creature has brown fur, a black nose and flies at light speed? If you guessed one of Santa’s reindeer, you’re wrong, silly, those antlered aviators would burn to a crisp if they ever attempted anything close to that velocity; but if you guessed the Wookiee, Chewbacca, piloting the Millennium Falcon home for the holidays, you’re right on the money.
The FilmBar’s “Nerd Nite” will be presenting the “Star Wars Holiday Special Highlights & Toy Drive” on Dec. 18, when you will be able to enjoy Chewie’s (mis)adventure home to celebrate “Life Day” on his home planet of Kashyyyk. (Where inhabitants ask themselves, “Why three y’s?” Why not?)
Long before Jar Jar Binks, but around the same time as the Star Wars disco album, the “Star Wars Holiday Special” stood as the biggest misfire in the far off galaxy’s canon; and to George Lucas’ dismay, video footage of the show is still floating around in the pop culture atmosphere and will be lovingly featured at the FilmBar event together with a special presentation from local Star Wars aficionado and Nerdvana contributor Dustin Diehl, and a toy drive for Toys for Tots AZ.
Attendees are encouraged to bring new toy donations to the show and they will receive a ticket for free admission to a future FilmBar screening. The Nerd Nite Star Wars Holiday Special Highlights & Toy Drive is part of the FilmBar’s “Holiday Hidey-Hole December Film Series” that also includes Christmas in Acidland and Monty Python’s Life of Brian.
