Halo 4: ‘Forward Unto Dawn’
At San Diego Comic-Con, super heroes and comic-books get a lot of attention, as they rightfully should.
But for gamers, some of the most exciting news came as a video trailer, but this time it isn’t for a video game. The trailer is a glimpse of the mini series, titled Halo 4: “Forward Unto Dawn,” to be launched before Halo 4 drops in November. Starting on the 5th of October, 15 minute-long webisodes will be launched every week, for a total of 5 episodes.
The Chief makes his cameo in the trailer, but it appears that 343 Industries (the brains and creators behind Halo 4) want to introduce something completely new to the universe of Halo: emotion. Until now, we’ve only known the fearless Master Chief and his masked compadres, mixed with some stone cold marines who found themselves thrown in as an attempt to add a bit of flavor. When fighting the Covenant and Flood, there’s no time to think about flowers and ponies; it’s guns blazin’, grenade chunkin’ chaos with little thought of anything but the gun in your hand and the trigger you’re meant to squeeze until everything around you is dead.
But this time, things are different. This time, the lowly marine cowering in the shade of your jade armor has a story. Now there’s a face behind the helmet, and a heart behind the body armor, and added realism that cannot be replicated with in-game cinematics and dialogue.
It’s not a blockbuster budget production, of that there’s no question. Yet it’s exciting to wonder just how good a real Halo movie might be, should they decide to man-up and make one.
Until then, enjoy the trailer. If you’re anything like me, October 5th can’t come soon enough.
