Nobody puts Nintendo in a corner. When its back is up against the wall, the once and future king of console gaming will call upon unmatched reserves of legendary characters and worlds to bring doubters back into the fold.

OK, that was a lot of metaphors. And this is a big day for Nintendo fans.

A new Zelda game for 3DS, set in the world of the beloved Super NES epic A Link to the Past. Luigi-centric DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U. A localized release of the acclaimed 3DS Japanese RPG Bravely Default: Flying Fairy.

And, oh yeah — the re-release of Super NES cult classic Earthbound on the Wii U’s Virtual Console channel, giving fans of the Japanese Mother series hope that the series could be expanded at last on these shores.

Mario Golf World Tour. More Mario Party. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. Yoshi’s Island. Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move. An Animal Crossing 3DS bundle. Zelda’s Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons on the 3DS eShop. Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.

Repetitive? Yes. But also iconic. Nintendo is doubling down on what makes it Nintendo.
