Last week began with the revelation that Hasbro’s Wizards of the Coast division was developing the “next iteration” of the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game — which is really just a roundabout way of saying the game’s 5th Edition is coming  barely four years after the underwhelming launch of 4th Edition.

While this wasn’t unexpected, the interesting bit is that the developers are turning to the game’s fans to make the new edition a unifying experience “that rises above differences of play styles, campaign settings, and editions, one that takes the fundamental essence of D&D and brings it to the forefront of the game.”

While D&D will turn 40 years old in 2014, there are some gaming properties out there that have been around far longer, or at least it feels that way. And many of them could probably use a bit of this 21st century crowdsourced innovation.

My question to you is this: What game (RPG, card game, board game, video game, whatever) is in dire need of a makeover? And what does it need, exactly? Be as general or specific as you wish!
