Top Gun in IMAX 3D – Do you feel the need…?

TG_Tombstone_205x305If you were a moviegoer in the 1980s you most likely remember Tom Cruise from his first lead role in the film Risky Business, but it was his part as the hot-shot Navy fighter pilot, Maverick, in the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun that made the world’s most famous Scientologist a bona fide action movie star.

I was actually in the Navy (Cubi Point Naval Air Station, Philippines) when Top Gun became the world’s greatest two-hour recruiting film, and I can remember having my breath taken away by its female star, Kelly McGillis, and cringing at the movie’s unapologetic corniness. But twenty-Seven years later I’m not too proud to admit that despite lines like, “You can be my wingman any time,” this movie was (and still is) a lot of fun.

Top Gun has become part of our nation’s cold war zeitgeist and has recently been digitally re-mastered with state-of-the-art IMAX 3D image and sound quality. The upgraded film makes its debut in local IMAX theaters this Friday, February 8, 2013. So if you feel the need for speed, hurry to your local theater and don’t miss this exclusive six-day IMAX 3D run.
