There’s a new detective at stately Wayne Manor

Angela Lansbury turns 86 on Sunday. What more fitting tribute for such a grande dame of stage and screen than a team-up between her iconic television sleuth Jessica Fletcher and the Dark Knight? After all, she joined forces with the leading men of both Magnum, P.I. and Simon & Simon — so it’s only natural she should encounter the world’s greatest detective in her travels.
Maybe it has nothing to do with the actress’ birthday, but it’s awesome all the same. And it must be kind of like having Batman turn …

DC’s New 52 finishes the first month strong

Last week marked the end of September and the first wave of DC’s 52 new books. The bold idea of restarting all of their super-hero books seems to have paid off handsomely. Despite the initial outcry from some fans about the jettisoning of history and continuity, the relaunch has been wildly successful. Each week multiple books received almost universal praise and more importantly they were selling hugely on the stands, which was the whole point behind this move. DC has long been losing market share to their major rival Marvel. …

DC’s New 52 continue to fly off shelves

After three full weeks (and one teaser week) of DC’s New 52, it’s safe to say that it’s a rousing success. Titles are selling out all over the place. Some of the titles are going back to press for new second, third or more printings. The #1s are bringing in new and relapsed fans to comic shops, which is …

DC delivers in second week of relaunches

Despite being underwhelmed by last week’s Justice League #1, the first book in the new DC Universe (DCnU), I gave DC the benefit of the doubt and picked up eight of the 13 new titles released this week. My leap of faith was rewarded with some very solid titles.

DC’s big bang starts with a fizzle

DC began their onslaught of 52 new titles with last week’s Justice League #1. DC only released two books last week to ensure that both would receive the maximum amount of attention. Both certainly deserved the spotlight, Flashpoint #5 was the final book of the “old” DC Universe, while Justice League #1 kicks off a new era for the company. From the moment the book and its superstar creative team of writer Geoff Johns and artist Jim Lee were announced buzz has been building about it. Anticipation was running at …
