Chaparral's Gustafson to Fresno State
Chaparral senior Andrew Gustafson committed to Fresno State earlier this week.
Gustafson, a 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive tackle, started all season for the Firebirds after seeling limited action on defense last season.
Gustafson helped pave the way for Dwayne Garrett and Cole Tyree to combine for 3,200 yards rushing and 45 touchdowns as the Firebirds won the 5A Division II state championship against Tempe Marcos de Niza last weekend.
Northern Arizona, Air Force were also interested, but Gustafson visited Fresno State during Thanksgiving weekend, and liked the chance to play for coach Pat Hill and assistant Derek Frazier.
It was a bittersweet season for Gustafson, whose mother passed away from cancer at the end of the regular season.
