Mesa hoops cupboard not bare behind Carson

Posted by on July 1, 2010 – 9:43 am

Mesa point guard Jahii Carson continues to explode nationally, as St. John’s is the latest to show serious interest in the 5-foot-10 senior.

Carson has unofficially visited UCLA, ASU and UA, and also has Marquette, Alabama, Indiana and a h0st of others competing for his services.

But with the recent transfer of second-leading scorer Danny Powell to Desert Vista, the Jackrabbits will start next year with only one other holdover rotation player – guard Charles Croxen.

But it doesn’t worry coach Shane Burcar. He is excited about the talent waiting in the wings, which includes junior guard Desmond Medder. Medder, former Mesa star Donte’s little brother, sat out last season because he was young for his age, but is expected to have a large role this year.

Burcar said Desmond, who played sparingly on varsity as a sophomore, is more athletic than his big brother.

Two freshmen, including 6-foot-9 Isaac Allan, will also be in the fold.

“I think we could be better than we were last year,” Burcar said.
