Several local baseball players have signed with major league clubs following last month’s draft and will now begin their professional careers. Here is the latest list, according to Baseball America:
- Supplemental first rounder Taylor Lindsey, a shortstop from Desert Mountain, signed with the Angels. He is currently playing in rookie ball here in Arizona.
- Jimmy Patterson, an 18th round pick, signed with Tampa Bay. Patterson led McClintock to the state title in high school before moving on to Central Arizona and ASU. He played sparingly for the Sun Devils last …

Basha forward Judd Welfringer, who would have been one of the top returning boys basketball players in the state, is moving to Iowa, coach Brad Pinter said. Welfringer’s father got a job there.
“It’ll be tough, but that’s how it works,” Pinter said. ” Sometimes things happen with families. They have to do what’s best for them.”
Welfringer averaged 16.2 points, 10.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists last season, according to statistics on Maxpreps.com.
The 6-foot-5 senior-to-be is committed to Drake.
