Gilbert Christian chooses new boys hoops coach

Posted by on June 6, 2011 – 12:04 pm

Jerome Joseph is the new boys basketball coach at Gilbert Christian.

Joseph, who is originally from Southern California, moved to Arizona in 2008 and is the owner and coach of Attitude Dream Club Basketball. Joseph played collegiately at the Master’s College and Azusa Pacific.

The Knights made the 1A title game last season, losing to Orme 68-56. Gilbert Christian won the 1A state championship in 2010, going undefeated. The team has a lot of talent coming back, highlighted by forward Connor Patterson and wing Sam Jones.

Gilbert Christian was at the center of controversy in January when coach Steve Currier was fired 15 games into the season despite a 12-3 record. Currier went 139-36 with two state titles in his tenure. Jim White took over as the interim coach for the second half of the season, finishing 12-1.

Gilbert Christian will move up to play in Division III next season, and should be a contender immediately.
