Cactus Shadows will not have a defensive coordinator this season
New Cactus Shadows coach Greg Davis will be calling plays on both sides of the ball this season because he was unable to find a defensive coordinator.
Davis was hired to replace Chad DeGrenier as coach after DeGrenier left for Mountain View, and since he didn’t get the job until mid-April, Davis’ top choices had already made commitments to coach at other schools.
“It’s a catch-22 because the guys I wanted wanted to come, but they had made a commitment to the team they were on,” Davis said. “Loyalty is a lost art. Some very quality coaches thought about it hard. They just decided they needed to stand up and be a man to their word (to their current team). I respect that.”
Davis said he didn’t want to bring someone in to ‘babysit the defense’, and once he couldn’t find a good fit, he decided to take on the role. He’s hoping it’s a temporary thing.
“I do have some very quality assistant coaches who I hope to pass the defense along to once it gets going,” Davis said.
