Joey Counts a game-time decision against Gilbert
Desert Ridge running back Joey Counts will be a game-time decision on Friday against Gilbert because of a shoulder injury that has kept him out since mid-June, coach Jeremy Hathcock said.
Counts has started practicing the past two weeks, but didn’t play in the team’s scrimmage and is still working his way back.
He had 174 carries for 1,329 yards and 19 touchdowns last season, helping the Jaguars to the 5A-I title game. If Counts does not play, Jordan Becerra and Parker Rasmussen will likely see a majority of time together in the backfield, Hathcock said.
Desert Ridge is ranked No. 2 in Division I to start the season and has games against Mountain View (Sept. 2) and Hamilton (Sept. 16) coming up soon.
