Williams Field battling injuries as Queen Creek looms
Third-ranked Williams Field (8-1) and No. 7 Queen Creek (8-1) play on Friday in a much-anticipated, Division III showdown. The winner joins Sabino as the biggest threat to Saguaro’s assumed jaunt to a fifth state title in six years.
The Black Hawks, though, may be without several key players due to injury.
Wide receiver Sean Schweichler has a meniscus injury that held him out of last week’s win over Poston Butte. He is getting an MRI on the knee, and coach Steve Campbell said there is a worry that there might be a slight tear. Schweichler has carried the ball 42 times for 499 yards and scored 10 touchdowns, and has seven catches for 163 yards and two more scores this year.
Wide receiver Cole Forsgren has a separated shoulder. He has eight catches for for 180 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Linebacker Skyler Wengert is trying to return from a dislocated shoulder. He has 44 tackles on the year, second-most on the Black Hawks, and two and a half sacks.
All three could miss the game, and there are several other Williams Field players dealing with aches and pains.
“It affects our week of practice,” Campbell said. “We did a lot more walk through than usual on Monday” to give the players time to heal.
