UCLA recently hired assistant coaches Noel Mazzone and Steve Broussard from Arizona State, both of whom have good relationships with the Saguaro coaches and …

Until then, the Aztecs will just keep on winning.
Avery Moss, Andrus Peat and Cassius Peat all missed the team’s game against American Fork (Utah) on Friday, but it hardly mattered as Calaen Robinson’s 30 points led top-ranked Corona to a 77-56 victory in the VisitMesa.com Basketball Challenge at Mountain View. The Aztecs (13-1) have won 11 consecutive games.

It’s Brophy vs. Gilbert in the first edition of the Arizona Soccer Showcase tournament championship.
Arizona Soccer Showcase boys final will be played Friday afternoon on Field No. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Scottsdale Sports Complex.
Brophy – again considered one of the Division I favorites in pursuit of its second consecutive state championship – needed a comeback against Hamilton late to win, 2-1. Ryan Grotjohn missed a penalty kick early, but came back and scored both goals for Brophy, the game-winner coming with a minute left in the second overtime.

Desert Ridge star Jordan Becerra has committed to play for Harvard, according to an email from his parents, Ted and Karen.
Becerra and Joey Counts led the Jaguars to a surprise appearance in the 5A Division I championship game in 2010, and after Parker Rasmussen returned from injury this year, Becerra moved back to his natural position of wide receiver and helped the team reach the Division I semifinals.
