Saguaro currently interviewing football candidates
Saguaro began interviews for a new football coach yesterday and is finishing up today, athletic director Bob LaRue said in an email.
The school hopes to have a coach in place by next week.
John Sanders was fired in early January after leading the team to four state championships in five years, including the past two in a row. Sanders had great on-field success, but it was a build-up of incidents off the field that led to his dismissal, sources said.
Offensive coordinator Jason Mohns is a candidate, and numerous players are lobbying for him to replace Sanders as coach.
Sanders said Friday that he is still mulling new job opportunities. According to sources, his most likely landing spot is in a role with the Arizona State football program.

This should be a “no brainer” for Bob LaRue and Saguaro High. Saguaro’s 2011 state champion high powered offense was directed by Jason Mohns, their Offensive coordinator
Mohns is also the man who organized and coached the Scottsdale Argonauts youth football program. Since 2006 Mohns has coached these 8 and 11 man tackle football teams to national championships year after year. Several of the boys who played Argonaut football have gone on to play championship level football at Saguaro High School.
In my opinion Mohns should be hired to this head coaching position as soon as possible.
