Maurice Kirby commits to Virginia Tech
Basha forward Maurice Kirby announced on Twitter that he verbally committed to Virginia Tech to play basketball next fall.
Kirby visited the campus this week. The 6-foot-9, 215-pound senior had originally committed to Arizona State when he was at Poston Butte High School as a sophomore, but when he transferred to Basha before his junior year, he re-0pened his recruiting.
He averaged eight point, eight rebounds, two assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game for Basha as a junior last season.
The senior forward was part of a three-headed attack at Basha with Torren Jones and Jaron Hopkins, but when coach Brad Pinter resigned after the 2011-2012 season, Jones and Hopkins eventually left the school while Kirby is still at Basha and will play for new coach John Burns this winter.
