Red Mountain and Mountain View took home most of the varsity honors at the Mesa school district cross country late last week at Red Mountain Park.

Both the boys individual champion Chandler Gallego (Red Mountain) and girls ind. champion Taryn Estavillo (Red Mountain) set new course records at the meet. Gallego ran in 15 minutes, 48 seconds and Estavillo won in 18 minutes, 32 seconds.

Mountain View won the boys and girls team titles. The Toro boys team had five runners finish in the top 10, led by Sawyer Lawson (16:19.2) and Luke Seftner (16:29.1) to help Mountain View finish with 32 points. Red Mountain was second with 44.

Mesa’s Jose Berera took third place (16:27.1) and Anthony Celaya (16:27.9) finished fourth individually.

Mountain View’s girls won with only 23 points, as all seven runners placed in the top 10.  Red Mountain took second with 51 points.

Erika Adams (18:39.2) and Angela Ellsworth (18:51.2) led the Toros. Teammates Madey Brooks, Billie Dytrt, Hannah Nichols, Cherokee Davis and Summer Stapley took fifth through ninth places, respectively.

Sarah Ziemba paced Skyline with a fourth-place finish (18:59.1) while teammate Jessie Williams came in 10th (20:04.5).
