Chase Funk unlikely to play for Mtn. View
A rash of injuries that has hit Mountain View the past couple weeks – at least a rash of key injuries – will have an effect on the playoff push.
The most concrete, unfortunately, appears to be QB/WR Chase Funk, as Toros coach Chad DeGrenier said this week that Funk is likely to miss Friday’s first-round playoff game vs. Desert Mountain.
Funk suffered a concussion in a loss to Mountain Pointe two weeks ago and didn’t play last week in a win over Mesa. He was the starting QB in the early part of the season, but the Toros went to a rotation of sorts with John Clark which helped Mountain View to a six-game winning streak in the middle of the season.
Funk’s mobility at QB was helpful as was his play at receiver when John Clark was under center.
Though he didn’t mention specifics, DeGrenier was hopeful a couple other cogs in the lineup could return this week. He said the players have been cleared to practice but how well they perform and how much will dictate their availability.
