Courtesy of Dobson girls basketball coach Tyler Dumas, whose Mustangs are in California at the La Jolla Country Day Sweet Sixteen tournament:
Round 1
Dobson over Cathedral (CA) 61-49. Katherine Hamilton led the Mustangs with 22 points. Tori Lloyd had 14 and Miyah Leith added 13.
Round 2
Mustangs advance to the Final Four with a 62-46 win over IMG Academy (FL)! Katherine Hamilton led with 21 points while Miyah Leith scored 13, Dyesha Stahley added 12 points and took 2 charges. Tori Lloyd added 11 points for Dobson.
This is a very competitive tournament. Last year we we took fourth place and lost to host-La Jolla Country Day and Arch Bishop Mitty. Both won California State Championships last year. This year’s field is even better. There are college coaches from Oregon, UCLA, ASU, Stanford, Alabama, Iowa State, Washington, Utah, San Diego State, San Diego, NAU, Long Beach, plus others. Lots of talent and talented teams.
We won (Friday night), 47-40, over Highlands Ranch Colorado. We struggled offensively, but we did enough to eek out a victory. Katherine Hamilton had 22 points and Miyah Leith added 12. First-time varsity player Caree Benford continued her hot shooting nailing three 3-pointers.
We will face defending state champion and host La Jolla Country Day (Saturday) at 6 p.m. AZ time.
