Arcadia, Mesquite in midst of football coaching searches
Arcadia is in the process of finding its new football coach, and will make the determination in mid-January, athletic director Kevin Mooney said in an email.
The opening is currently posted on the district and AIA websites, and a selection committee consisting of Mooney, an assistant principal, another coach and two parents will conduct the preliminary interviews. Principal John Biera and district athletic director Clif McKenzie will do the final interviews and make a recommendation to the district office for final approval.
Titans assistant Lenny Abt took over just before the start of the season following the abrupt resignation of coach Jim Ellison. Arcadia went 4-6 last season and missed the playoffs one year after advancing to the Division III semifinals.
Abt was named the interim coach and has applied for the permanent position.
Mesquite has also posted its job opening. The Wildcats are expected to interview prospective candidates in January when the second semester begins, athletic director Jason Grantham said.
Matt Gracey resigned following a 2-8 mark last year. Gracey coached the Wildcats for two years.
