Just because most of the non-retail store world shuts down for the next week or two, doesn’t mean you have to sit at home and stare at the wall.

The Nike Tournament of Champions ends on Saturday, but there are about a half-dozen other basketball tournaments ready to begin after Christmas Day. The VisitMesa.com showcase of top-notch boys teams from here (Mountain View, Corona del Sol, Desert Vista, Gilbert, Gilbert Christian, Pinnacle and Red Mountain) and afar (Oregon, Ohio, Washington and one from Canada) that runs Dec. 26-29 at Mountain View H.S. McClintock also runs a tournament at the same with about 15 boys teams (mostly Div. I and II) from the East Valley. There’s the Holiday Hoopsfest hosted by Scottsdale Christian with Div. I and II schools (including Desert Mountain, Hamilton and Mountain Pointe).

Girls hoops tournaments include the Lady Titans Winter Classic at Arcadia H.S. all day from Dec. 26-28 and Valley Christian’s tournament the 26th-29. If you want some real cold, the Payson Holiday Hoops Tournament Dec. 28-29 with Gilbert, Xavier, Queen Creek and Westwood among EV participants.

A mixture of top local and national soccer teams will be at the Scottsdale Sports Complex from Dec. 27-31st (except the 30th) for the Arizona Soccer Showcase boys and girls tournaments. And yes, a lot of the elite will be there. The Dobson Mustang Classic runs Dec. 26-31 (except the 30th) at Red Mountain Park with those championship matches Dec. 31 at Dobson High School.

Wrestling fans can head to Arizona State for the Stephen Blackford dual tournament with 34 Arizona schools having kids grapple all day on Dec. 27 and 28.

So don’t say you have to be stuck with “endearing” family 24/7 for the next week.
