Tyler Johnstone, Kyler Fackrell named freshman All-Americans
The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) casted ballots on the top freshman in college football, and a couple former East Valley standouts made the national squad.
Oregon offensive lineman Tyler Johnstone (Hamilton) was named to the Freshman All-American squad on offense, while Utah State linebacker Kyler Fackrell (Mesa) was named to the Defense.
A rare freshman to start for Oregon, Johnstone was part of a dominant offensive line which led the Ducks to the Fiesta Bowl while starting nearly the entire season at tackle.
Fackrell had 87 tackles (28 solo) at Utah State, along with eight tackles for loss, three sacks, three interceptions, six passes defended, a forced fumble and a blocked kick. Utah State went 11-2 and won the Idaho Potato Bowl.
Johnstone and Fackrell both redshirted as true freshman last year, but still qualify for the squad.
