Wirth resigns as Skyline hoops coach
After seven seasons at the helm, Michael Wirth resigned as Skyline’s boys basketball coach on Friday.
Wirth coached at the school since 2005.
“I think what is best for the program at this point is change,” Wirth said in an email sent out by Schultz. “It was my decision and I am confident it is the right decision. Change sometimes is good for everyone.
“I am extremely appreciative of the past seven years spent here at Skyline coaching some amazing young men in this great game of basketball and the game of life.”
Skyline was 7-17 this season. The Coyotes best season was 2008-2009 when the team was 17-12, but the thoughtful and classy Wirth showed himself to be more concerned with kids and their futures more than a win-loss record.

Good coach, better man. Another coach (and school) screwed by the crazy open enrollment law. Skyline boys have dotted the rosters of every Mesa and Gilbert school over the years. He never got a fair shake.
