Spring is (apparently) here, and that means spring sports and weather have already collided.

The Lion Country Classic, hosted by Red Mountain, is one of a few tournament across the Valley to begin the 2013  softball season.

It’s already been punctured by weather which forced cancellation of Wednesday’s games.

Play begins in-full on Thursday and Wednesday’s canceled games were added Friday/Saturday.

Saturday’s games are TBD based on the standings, so check back (or check the website above) for updated results and brackets.

The championship game will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Red Mountain H.S. on Field 1 (Varsity field) with the third-place game at the same time on Field 2 (JV field).

Consolation bracket finals are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Red Mountain Park (7745 E. Brown Road, Mesa).

Basha won the tournament last year in a win over Gilbert (which won the tournament in 2011), and both teams have a good chance of being back there again.  Red Mountain also won in 2010 and 2009.
