Football stars converge on Saturday at Rivals camp
Nearly all of the state’s top high school football recruits will convene on Saturday at Hamilton for the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour.
Junior standouts such as Desert Mountain quarterback Kyle Allen, Hamilton offensive lineman Casey Tucker, Chaparral wide receiver Tyler Whiley, Mountain Pointe defensive lineman Natrell Curtis, Chaparral tight end Trevor Wood and Hamilton defensive lineman Qualen Cunningham highlight the group. Mountain Pointe defensive back/wide receiver Jalen Brown, the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year, was scheduled to participate but will miss the event with a shoulder injury.
Desert Mountain wide receiver Mark Andrews and Desert Vista defensive lineman Jalen Jelks are the only two East Valley players with scholarship offers who turned down the invitation, according to Rivals. Both are expected to be attending Oklahoma’s Junior Day instead.
Sophomore stars Christian Kirk (Saguaro), Bryce Perkins (Chandler) and Caleb Peart (Hamilton) are also scheduled to attend.
Players can often see their stock surge with good performances at these camps because they are measured against fellow elite prospects. Several out-of-state standouts will also participate.
The camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
