E.V. teams faring well in Big League Dugout Invitational

Posted by on March 27, 2013 – 12:16 pm

Corona del Sol, Brophy and Mountain Pointe are all undefeated in their first two games of pool play in Horizon’s highly-acclaimed Big League Dugout Invitational.

The tournament consists of 12 teams, including eight perennially strong programs from out of state.

The Aztecs are atop Pool C after beating Lone Peak (Utah) and Chatfield (Colo.) in their first two games. If Corona del Sol wins its finale today over Green Valley (Nev.), it will clinch a berth in the tournament semifinals on Thursday at 9 a.m.

Mountain Pointe and Brophy are tied atop Pool B and will face off with each other today at 3:45 p.m. at Brophy. This will be the third time these teams have faced in each other in eight days after the Broncos swept a pair of games last week. The winner guarantees itself a spot in the semifinal opposite the Pool C winner, while the loser still has a chance at advancing as the wild card.

Horizon is 1-1 in Pool A, one game back of Libertyville (Ill.). Horizon plays Wilson (Ore.) tonight at 7:45 p.m. at Horizon with its hopes still alive of advancing. The Pool A winner will play the wild card entrant in the other semifinal at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

The championship game of the Big League Dugout Invitational will be on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Horizon.
