Ky Westbrook, Devon Allen set state track records
The reigning Tribune Track Athletes of the Year are back to their old tricks.
Brophy star sprinter/hurdler Devon Allen was slowed early in the season by an ankle injury suffered in football, but is clearly back to full strength now. The senior finished the 110 hurdles in 13.50 seconds at the Mt. Sac Relays over the weekend, breaking his own state record of 13.52 seconds in the event. Allen could very well break it again as he aims to peak in the upcoming months.
Chandler’s Ky Westbrook is known for her sprinting prowess, but she threw the shot put 47 feet, 9 inches at the Chandler City Meet on Wednesday to set a state record. Westbrook surpassed the previous mark of 47 feet, 5 inches thrown by Cindy Johnson of Chandler in 1980. Westbrook throws the shot put irregularly but showed once again on Wednesday the type of athlete she is by setting the record.
