Sean Renfree, Chandler High trio selected in NFL draft
Former Chandler standout Dion Jordan became the highest Arizona player to ever be drafted into the NFL when he went No. 3 overall to the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, but he wasn’t the only former East Valley star selected.
Fellow former Wolves Markus Wheaton and Marc Anthony were each chosen, as was former Notre Dame quarterback Sean Renfree.
Wheaton, who played wide receiver for Oregon State, went in the third round (No. 79 overall) to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Anthony, a defensive back from Cal, went to the Baltimore Ravens in the seventh round.
Renfree, who played collegiately at Duke, went in the seventh round to the Atlanta Falcons.
Several local products either have or will sign undrafted free agent deals with NFL teams. Former Chaparral stars Deveron Carr (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Craig Roh (Carolina Panthers) have reportedly reached agreements already, while former Mesa defensive back Keelan Johnson is expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins.
No player from Arizona or Arizona State was taken in the draft.
