Postseason awards update
Now that the final championships have been crowned and before everyone scampers away from schools and scalding heat for the summer, a few programming notes:
For those schools, sections, cities or school districts who haven’t already (we’ve already received all-city and all-district teams from the Gilbert, Chandler and Mesa districts), please send complete all-city, all-section, all-district, all-whatever teams are formulated these days (not just an individual school’s kids): email@example.com.
We’ll start posting them in our VarsityXtra blog on our website.
Hopefully this will be the last year of such nonsense, because voting for all-division and all-section teams through the AIA website has caused many headaches with schools and coaches, mostly because teams don’t play other teams within their own section, so why vote? Hopefully when everyone plays everyone else within their section at least once beginning this fall, it’ll help alleviate some of these issues, and schools/districts won’t (understandably) feel the need to go their own ways in honoring kids.
(Since we’ve received inquiries, we have nothing to do with All-State awards, nor do we have anything to do with deciding any of these all-city, all-section or all-district teams).
Eventually, All-Tribune honors for the East Valley schools and kids will trickle out, but it’ll take awhile.
Coaches will get emails asking for nominations from myself (softball, boys/girls tennis) and Kyle Odegard (baseball, boys volleyball, boys/girls track and field) in the coming days: stats, awards, accomplishments, accolades and anything else about kids they’d like to mention to help in as we ultimately decide the All-Tribune teams.
Summer is already sizzling, but stay tuned. We’re not shutting the door on 2012-2013 just yet.
