Ky Westbrook competes in Dream 100 on Saturday
Chandler track phenom Ky Westbrook will compete in the Dream 100 at the adidas Grand Prix in New York City on Saturday against some of the best high school sprinters in the country.
The Wolves junior won the 100-meter dash title with a time of 11.47 seconds at the Division I state meet, which is the second-best time this season among the entrants. Only MaryBeth Sant of Highland Ranch (Colo.) Valor Christian has run faster with a time of 11.38 seconds.
A two-hour portion of the meet will be shown live on NBC, and although Westbrook’s race will take place at 9:35 a.m. local time (25 minutes before the event goes live) the Dream 100 will likely be shown on tape delay at some point in the broadcast.
Westbrook was unhappy with her 100 time at state despite the easy victory, and rebounded to set the 200-meter dash state record in a time of 23.39 seconds later in the evening. Earlier this season, Westbrook set a state record in the shot put.
The Arizona 100-meter dash record is 11.31 seconds, set by Peoria’s Jessica Onyepunuka in 2004.
