Val Kaff named Gatorade Softball Player of Year
Capping a stellar four-year career at Mountain View, senior pitcher Val Kaff was named the Gatorate Softball Player of the Year for Arizona.
Kaff led the Lady Toros (27-8) to the Division I loser’s bracket final (overall semifinals) in May. She posted a 27-7 record with a 0.84 earned-run average, 431 strikeouts and 65 walks in 216 2/3 innings. Among her 27 wins were 16 shutouts and two no-hitters. She also batted .310 with two homers and 18 RBI.
Kaff will play at Michigan State this fall. She held a 3.65 GPA as a senior and volunteered at a homeless shelter and food bank. She also volunteered with the Salvation Army and doing youth softball coaching and umpiring.
