SONY DSCThe Arizona Diamondbacks honored Mesa Community College and former Tempe Prep track and field standout Pau Tonnensen in a ceremony prior to Wednesday night’s game.

The Dbacks saluted Tonnensen’s amazing accomplishment of winning all four multi-event national championships during his MCC career. He captured the heptathlon indoors and the decathlon outdoors both years and set national records in the process.

As part of the ceremony, the Diamondbacks posted photos of Tonnensen on their center field video board (photo courtesy of Mesa Community College) and then had him throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Tonnensen was also presented a Dbacks jersey with his name on the back.

Tonnensen not only won the multi-event titles at MCC, but captured the pole vault championships for both indoor and outdoor seasons.   He was also named NJCAA all-academic with a 3.64 GPA in his concentration of Industry and Economy.

Tonnensen will attend the University of Arizona in the fall where he is expected to be an important component of the Wildcats’ track and field team.
