Perry makes coaching hires
Perry hired a slew of new coaches this week:
Brock Kearsley was hired as the new girls basketball coach. Kearsley was the girls coach at Apache Junction since 2007, including the Desert Sky Region Coach of the Year in 2010, and was previously an assistant at Queen Creek for six years. The Oregon native also coached at Western Oregon as a graduate assistant in the late 1990s.
Jason Dunn is the school’s new girls soccer coach. He played at the University of Washington and Seattle Pacific University, the U.S. National team and then professionally, as well as the U.S. National “A” Team and the U.S. National “B” Team from 1991-1996. Jason was part of the U.S. Open Men’s National Championship Team as well as won the NCAA Championship in 1993. He played professional soccer for nine years and was later part of a Men’s Over 30 National Finalists from 2005-2007. Born and raised in Washington, Dunn came to Arizona in 2004 to start his own construction business with his twin brother, James.
Higley girls soccer coach John Roberts will be Perry’s new boys soccer and boys cross country coach. He’d coached Higley’s girls soccer last season, girls cross country since 2009, and girls soccer coach and boys cross country from 2002-06. He received two coach of the year awards and two region coach of the year awards while winning a state championship in 2006, as well as a state runner-up in 2004. A former Tribune Coach of the Year in cross country, he’s coached soccer for 27 years at various levels, two state titles in club soccer and three state runners up appearances.
Gwen Anthony was hired as the new girls cross country coach. She graduated from the University of South Carolina, where she ran track and cross country, and received her master’s degree from Grand Canyon University. She has been coaching for 16 years, including last year as Hamilton’s girls coach, was an assistant at Perry in 2011 and 2009 and five years at Hamilton Prep.
