Perry freshman PG Markus Howard offered scholarship by ASU

Posted by on August 5, 2013 – 10:49 am

Markus Howard, a freshman at Perry who has yet to play a varsity game, was offered a scholarship by Arizona State on Friday during an unofficial visit to the campus.

Howard played club basketball for Arizona Power and impressed college coaches in the July evaluation period. He had previously been offered a scholarship by Northern Arizona.

Two years ago, Markus’ older brothers, Jordan and Desmond, teamed up to lead Perry to the state quarterfinals, highlighted by a memorable upset of Basha. Jordan Howard led the East Valley in scoring last season with 25.6 points per game as the Pumas went 16-11 on the year but missed the playoffs.

Jordan returns for his senior season this year at Perry, as does Jake Mortensen (7.5 points, 5.5 rebounds). Bryce Fisher saw time on varsity as a freshman last season and is also set to return. With those impact returners and the addition of Markus Howard, the Pumas should be a shoo-in to make the postseason this year.
