St. Mary’s guard Shilpa Tummala was named the Gatorade Player of the Year on Thursday.
The Harvard-bound senior led the Knights to a 30-0 record and the team’s second consecutive state championship this season. Tummala averaged 13.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.6 steals per game, according to ESPN.
St. Mary’s dominated Arizona competition all years and ended the season ranked No. 1 in the nation by multiple outlets.

Last weekend, the Hamilton girls tennis team won the East Valley Tennis Tournament at Gene Autry tennis Center in Mesa, a doubles-only annual event.

The Huskies defeated Corona in the finals. The Aztecs beat Mountain View to reach the finals, while Desert Vista, Chandler, Highland and Basha also were in the Gold Division.

Nine different Hamilton girls played over the two-day tournament.
