Dennis Erickson’s hot seat must have been sitting out in the desert sun this summer, because it is starting to scorch.
Recruiting services Scout.com and Rivals.com reported the commitment of Hamilton offensive lineman Tyler Johnstone to Oregon, the ninth in-state player to choose the Pac-10.
So far, the Arizona State football coach has gotten none of those.
Normally this wouldn’t be a problem, as poaching talent from other states can be just as effective, but this could end up being the state’s best recruiting class in years.

Is Class of 2011 the cream of AZ’s largest crop?

We did a story last fall chronicling the rise of high school football’s “big boys” — offensive linemen — around Arizona, and especially the Valley.
The recruiting warehouses, a.k.a. Rivals.com and Scout.com, each had four linemen in its top five prospects, and seven of the top 25, for Arizona’s class of 2010.
We might have jumped the gun.
